Add a permalink to each comment

What's a bookmarklet?

A bookmarklet is a browser bookmark that runs a script (instead of directing you to a web page). If you place it in your browser's toolbar you can use it on demand on a thread of commends.

To see how bookmarklets in general are installed in Firefox, here's a tutorial video done by friendfeed.com (demostrating their Share on friendfeed bookmarklet).

To install a bookmarklet in Internet Explorer:

  1. Right click on the the language-specific bookmarklet button friendfeedCommentAnchor Bookmarklet
  2. Click Add to Favorites...
  3. Choose Create In Links (yellow folder)

What's a user script?

A user script is small program that installs into a browser add-on that you can use to manage and run custom scripts. The user script and the bookmarklet are almost identical in function. One difference though, is the user script can be set to automatically add comment permalinks as you navigate from page to page.

Once the user script or bookmarklet is installed, here's a screenshot showing how it's used (using the bookmarklet, you have to click the bookmarklet each time you navigate to a new page / refresh the current one):
